Seven Women Who Are Doing it Different

via Gun Nuts Media by Shelley Rae on 9/12/12

Every once in a while I find it prudent to give credit where credit is due, and lend some recognition to the people who are really making a difference in the industry.

Among these people are seven women who have really made their own way. They’ve brought something different to the table and blazed their way into our world. Whether they are already established and respected industry folk or true up-and-comers all these women have touched lives and will continue to do so. You may know some of them, you may even know all of them, but here’s my take on what they’re doing and why it makes them so amazing.

Brooke with an FN SLP

Anna Brooke
Brooke is pretty behind the scenes but I have no doubt some day she will be a real force to be reckoned with. Although relatively new to the shooting sports, Brooke is already out-shooting much of the competition. If you haven’t heard of her it’s because she’s not one to play off the “High Lady” title, and is determined to keep improving and take her status from her overall placement. When she’s not training or competing, this Southern Belle helps run Sevigny Performance.

Natalie Foster
Girls Guide to Guns CEO Natalie Foster has been making waves in the industry for some time now. This savvy California bombshell is making guns accessible to a totally new crowd of Hollywood housewives and their liberal-leaning counterparts.  That, combined with her work on Girls Guide to Guns, which has made the concept of gun-ownership easier to access for women world-wide, makes Natalie a real industry angel.

Lisa Looper

It takes some serious genius to come up with a concept like the Flashbang Holster. Of course, we all know the real reason I love Lisa so much is the fact she named her line “the Pin Up Collection” and has a (really awesome) holster named after Marilyn Monroe, who pretty much every girl my age loves to quote out of context. Lisa is unafraid to be different and develop truly unique products. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Gracie McKee
Gracie may be a Taylor Swift fanatic, but I have to forgive her because of her sheer determination to do right. I have never met anyone so passionate about teaching people. She is constantly striving to improve her skills as both a shooter and a trainer and provides valuable information to the masses through her blog  Packing Pretty.

Randi Rogers

Randi Rogers
Randi is a well-known, award-winning competitive shooter, however Randi is not just a well-known award-winning competitive shooter. While Comp-Tac was smart to sponsor Randi, they took it a step farther to hire this intelligent and hard-working woman as their Marketing and Sales Manager.  Somehow, between all her time on the road winning matches all over the world (she has over 30 world and national titles), she has time to oversee the successful manufacturer’s marketing. That’s insane. Kind of like that story Randi told me at Steel Challenge about the baby and the dog.

Briney Starr

Britney Starr
Britney may be new to your radar, but you would have noticed her soon enough. When Britney’s not busy writing and acting as an associate editor at Women’s Outdoor News she is the part-owner of Starr & Bodill African Safaris. This is a girl who works side-by-side with her father to take people on Safaris. In Africa. And I think it’s cool when my dad and I go to Disneyland.

Anette Wachter

It’s no secret that the 30calgal is a good friend of mine – but she’s a good friend to have. The gorgeous gourmet-cooking Amazon can out-drink and out-shoot just about anybody. A high-power rifle shooter by trade with titles under her belt to spare, Anette was the second woman ever to win the BC National Rifle Championship. The last woman to win it? 127 years before. Apparently holding records, such as the NRA 300-yard Civilian National Record that currently bears her name, just isn’t enough for Anette, who decided this year to move into 3-Gun. Plus, there’s the car.
