.22 rifle shooting event happens April 6
Registration begins at 9 a.m.
"The event consists of a number of timed shooting events called stages," says Brent Stettler, regional conservation outreach manager for the DWR. "A different type of target and objective will be offered at each stage. Trophies will be presented to those who accrue the most points."
The shoot is free. Ammunition as well as eye and ear protection will also be provided free-of-charge. "We encourage you to bring your own.22 rifle," Stettler says, "but if you don't have one, extras will be available."
To participate, children and youths must be graduates of Utah's Hunter Education program or an out-of-state program approved by the DWR.
If you'd like to participate in all of the shooting stages, Stettler encourages you to bring a lunch and beverages.
Pre-registration is required. To register, call Stettler at 435-613-3707.
"I think all shooters, even those with limited gun and shooting experience, will enjoy the shooting games," he says.
Stettler says even if you've shot firearms in the past, you probably haven't had a chance to participate in a competition-style shoot. "Don't let the word 'competition' scare you," he says. "It's all for fun."
The North Springs Shooting Range is between Price and Huntington on state Route 10. To get to the range, leave the route at the Hiawatha turn-off. After you've traveled about two miles, the road will fork. Take the right fork to Wattis. Travel another five miles to the shooting range.
