Yesterday, I purchased a Browning Buckmark .22 that will eventually transform into my open gun. I’ve had a lot of people ask me “Why a Buckmark?” but there are a lot of factors that go into choosing a proper .22, just like with any firearm purchase. Here are a few questions I ask myself prior to any purchase.
I bought my Buckmark specifically as the base for an open gun. If I had been looking for something that was specifically a trainer I may have taken a close look at the Smith & Wesson M&P22 or the Ruger SR22. With the different options available it’s easy to purchase something optimized for your purpose.
Will it break?
There aren’t too many .22 pistols I trust. In fact, beyond the Ruger 22/45 there aren’t any .22 pistol I trust implicitly. I am running my new Browning off of pure faith, I do believe that the M&P22 and the SR22 are both performing well. I don’t think I’d waste my money anything else. Being finicky is one thing, having a tendency to be garbage is another.
Do I like it?
Seriously. I think my new Buckmark is a cool gun. It has a gold trigger, it is going to transform into an awesome open gun, it’s fun to shoot, it’s easier to field strip than a 22/45, what’s not to like?
It’s easy to get caught up and over-think gun purchases, it’s a big decision and this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you can answer these questions then you’re definitely on the right track. Or you could just get a Glock.
