NRA brings out Maxim, Brownings and more big guns for Triggers on the Military Channel
Fairfax, Virginia - Everything started after the lights went out at NRA headquarters last night. That’s when the crew from Military Channel's Triggers: Weapons that Changed the World broke out the cameras, cables and celebrities to film portions of next season's episodes. Host Wil Willis (former Army Ranger and Air Force Pararescueman) was all smiles.
"He looked like a kid in a candy store," commented Museum Director Jim Supica. "We get that reaction a lot around here."
Bringing out the big guns, the Museum offered up a handful of favorites from behind the glass. A German Maxim 08/15 light machine gun (light ... at 42 pounds), Browning Auto-5 shotgun, Borchardt pistols, a Colt 1860 Army revolver and a few more firearm request by Triggers' producers. Some just to look at, some to shoot. And the shoot is what had everyone antsy with anticipation.
"We can't fire every gun the Military Channel requested," explained Senior Curator Phil Schreier. "Some of the guns are too old and others are too valuable. They appeared to be happy with the results."
The results were a collection of great shots down at the NRA headquarters range. Schreier and Willis broke out the shotguns for battle of clay targets, Senior Curator Doug Wicklund offered up his 1860 Mosby's Rangers pistol for the steel targets, and the most impressive was the Maxim 08/15. Each of these encounters will be seen on Season 2 of Triggers.
Setting up a variety of targets, the most visually impression was the Maxim versus the water bottle. And while our pictures were great, I can't wait to see how everything comes together when the show reappears on the Military Channel airwaves later this fall. And, as everything wrapped up around 4 am in the morning, I can't wait to head home and catch some Zzzs.
