Most of our readers are familiar with Larry Correia's wildly popular Monster Hunter series, and if you're not, go to Amazon and buy them now. You can get the first three books in one tidy package and the fourth book, Legion is available now as well.
In the books, the gear the used by the Monster hunters is pretty straightforward: rifles chambers in some variation of .30 caliber (usually .308), shotguns chambered in 12 gauge, and sub guns/pistols chambered in some type of .45, usually .45 ACP. There are a few characters that use some truly wild one-off guns, like Sam Haven, who runs a .45-70 lever gun because he's awesome like that. And of course, everyone carries a big knife/axe for chopping heads off stuff.
So for a fun Friday post, let's build a Monster Hunter rig. The rules are simple: one long gun, one handgun, and one contact weapon. Your choice, any caliber as long as it fits the 12 gauge/.30 cal/.45 rules. For example, this would be my rig, which I like to call "modern centurion".
- KRISS Vector sub-machine gun
- Glock 21 Gen 4
- A Roman-style pugio dagger
Other ideas could be a cowboy monster hunter rig – Winchester 1897 shotgun, matching Colt SAA in .45 Colt, and a huge Bowie Knife. The Monster Operator Rig would be a SBR .300 Blackout, FNX-45 Tactical, and of course a Ka-Bar for when the fighting gets dirty.
Have some fun with this, and share your rig in the comments!
