Walther PPQ NAVY

via The Firearm Blog by Steve (The Firearm Blog) on 4/29/12

At DSA '12 Walther was exhibiting their Walther PPQ NAVY 9mm pistol.

The NAVY version is designed for use in situations where the pistol may become immersed and/or fired in water. A hole and guides in the striker channel, allowing water to be drained or pushed out, along with a stronger striker spring allow it to be used when completely flooded.

In Germany the NAVY Tactical version (threaded barrel) can be bought with a matching suppressor. Those lucky Germans!

This Mini Multi-Tool Is Your Go-Anywhere-Fix-Anything Deal of the Day [Dealzmodo]

Every job calls for a specific tool, like baseball requires a bat, a nail requires a hammer, and a bad movie hinges on Brendan Fraser. Then there are those jobs that you just need an all-around functional tool, one that can easily travel with you anywhere. That's where this Swiss+Tech Micro-Max 19-in-1 Keychain Multitool comes in. It's like having a tool box jammed with every single type of screw driver, wrench, plier that you could possibly own, and it folds down to just under two inches long. More »

We heard it five months ago and we're hearing it again: Facebook is working on its own smartphone. If true, what might this super-social phone look like?

Wipe Your Hard Drive DoD-Clean [Security]

via Gizmodo by Andrew Tarantola on 4/25/12

You can reformat and overwrite that old hard drive as many times as you want before junking it—modern forensics software can still extract data from it. The Drive eRazer Ultra, however, can expunge your sensitive data to DoD specifications. More »

H&K G36 Useless at 200m When Hot

via The Firearm Blog by Steve (The Firearm Blog) on 4/25/12

A German newspaper has revealed that a Bundeswehr report has said that once the H&K G36 rifle has heated up, the accuracy is significantly reduced to a point where it is useless beyond 200 meters (218 yards). These are pretty serious allegations!

I expect H&K to respond shortly (or maybe they will just ignore the allegations and hope it means greater sales of the HK416). The XM8, a rifle derived from the G36, nearly became the US Army service rifle.
