AR myths: They’re underpowered

via Gun Nuts Media by Caleb on 3/28/12

Probably one of my favorite myths about ARs is how “underpowered” they are. Usually brought up by the same kind of people who believe that a .45 ACP has “knockdown power” or say stuff like “I carry a .45 because they don’t make a .46 lol”, one of the favorite alleged flaws that people like to point out about ARs chambered in 5.56 is how they just don’t have the awesome and terrible power of whatever their pet cartridge is.

Which is why you could never use an AR in .223 to do something like kill a 150+ lb aoudad at over 150 yards. Oh wait.

The thing about .223 and 5.56 is that bullet selection is absolutely key. But with proper bullet selection and good shot placement, it can punch way above its weight class. I eagerly await the first comment from someone who says they could have made the shot in the video with an iron sighted AK while standing offhand AND that the 7.62×39 would have vaporized that barbary sheep.
