PayPal has indicated that it is trialling the use of mobile phones to make payments at a handful of Home Depot retail stores. PayPal is inthe process of developing a mobile wallet appplication, which would be stored on a smartphone or a PayPal card. The pilot, limited to just five brick-and-mortar locations, requires mobile device users to enter their phone number and a pin code associated with their PayPal account at the register. The move is meant to counter some of the other mobile payment systems being developed by credit card companies and wireless network operators, such as Isis and Google Wallet. PayPal has not indicated when the pilot might expand into a larger roll-out.
